Pet Diagnostic Services

Diagnostic Services

Providing for your pet's complete medical needs is Dunedin Animal Medical Centers’ goal. Our in-house diagnostic capabilities allow us to obtain immediate answers to help your pet feel better faster. Because we can perform these diagnostic tests here at our hospital, we can help minimize the travel and stress associated with referrals to specialists. And if your pet does require a referral to a specialist, the information provided by the tests we have performed at our hospital allows you to get the most benefit from your consultation.

Digital Radiography

We are proud to offer advanced digital radiographic technology for your pet's health and well-being. Radiographs ("X-rays") are one of the most useful tests for diagnosing different types of medical problems. Radiography can be used to determine the location and severity of fractures, identify symptoms of heart disease, detect foreign bodies in your pet's stomach and much more. To aid in the diagnosis of your pet's condition,

Digital radiography allows us to produce high-quality, high-resolution images faster than traditional film X-rays. That means less time on the X-ray table and less stress for your pet. Digital images can be easily emailed or saved to a disc, allowing for fast consultations with specialists when needed.

Digital radiography requires no processing chemicals that pollute our environment.

Digital Dental Radiography

Dental x-rays are essential to providing the best possible care for your pet's mouth. Physical examinations of the mouth can't reveal disease that is hiding under the gum line and inside the tooth that x-rays can.

High definition intra oral digital radiographs provide exceptionally clear pictures for better diagnosis and use approximately 90% less than the usual dosage of radiation. Additionally, intra oral digital radiographs require less time to produce quality films, thus decreasing the time that your pet is under anesthesia.

Diagnostic Laboratory Testing

When your pet is sick, he or she can't tell us what is wrong. Dunedin Animal Medical Centers’ extensive laboratory provides fast and accurate information critical for diagnosis of a sick or injured pet. With our modern diagnostic laboratory equipment, our patients can receive appropriate treatment immediately upon arriving at the hospital.

Our laboratory is capable of processing many different tests, including complete blood counts (CBC); blood chemistry panels; parasite testing to detect the presence of heartworms, roundworms and other internal parasites, and fungal cultures. We are also able to perform pre-anesthetic blood testing the day of your pet's anesthetic procedure. The information we obtain from these pre-anesthetic screening tests can greatly reduce the risks associated with anesthesia and surgery.

Additional laboratory testing is referred to Antech Diagnostics which services more than 19,000 animal hospitals throughout North America.  Laboratory results are generally available in 24 hours or less.
